BetterPlayer Code of Conduct

The purpose and intent of the BetterPlayer program philosophy is to promote the advancement of adult recreational soccer, to encourage the development of player skills and abilities, promote programs that teach individual and team skills, and support the growth of trained coaches and staff members. The goal and value of player participation is to have fun while playing soccer, to develop self-esteem and confidence through skill development while promoting a sense of fair play and good sportsmanship.

The key elements of the BetterPlayer soccer experience is developing individual and team skills in all players in a fun, friendly environment that builds character, competence and confidence.

BetterPlayer adopts P.R.I.D.E. as the values that define its philosophy:

In order to uphold P.R.I.D.E. and promote a high level of community spirit, BetterPlayer adopts the following Code of Conduct for all players, coaches and staff members.

Players

All players on an BetterPlayer program will follow the below rules:

  • Treat coaches, teammates, other players, staff members and spectators with respect.
  • Be a positive role model and encourage good sportsmanship from fellow players, coaches, and staff members always.
  • Do not bully, ridicule or intimidate any individual involved with the program, physically or verbally, and help report such behavior to coaches or staff members to help uphold our code of conduct.
  • Listen to coaches and do what is asked in order to improve the game.
  • Be on time and arrive with a good attitude to all programs.
  • Notify coaches well in advance if you cannot attend training, games, or other team events through the BetterPlayer portal or WhatsApp group.
  • Posting inappropriate information or exhibiting inappropriate behavior on BetterPlayer communication channels or any public platform may be grounds for dismissal from the BetterPlayer community.

Coaches

All BetterPlayer Coaches shall:

  • Be a positive role model for players through mature, professional, positive behavior
  • Demonstrate good sportsmanship and maintain a proper perspective on the purpose of BetterPlayer, namely, participation is for the enjoyment and benefit of the players.
  • Above all else, maintain the safety and well-being of players.
  • Regularly communicate to players what is expected of them in each practice, game or pickup session.
  • Provide a positive, enjoyable atmosphere for the players and staff members.
  • Provide necessary equipment and guidance at practices, games and pickups.
  • Discipline players in a fair and consistent manner.
  • Refrain from making negative comments about other coaches, players and staff members
  • Maintain a consistent practice schedule that is both fun and challenging for the players.

All Participants of BetterPlayer shall always abide by the program's Code Of Conduct. Inappropriate behavior that violates this Code Of Conduct shall result in disciplinary action, up to and including, expulsion from the practice group, and expulsion from the BetterPlayer program.

We hope this form rarely, if ever, gets filled out, but we understand there are moments within soccer where one's experience is disrupted and/or a breach of our code of conduct occurs that may go unseen by staff or requires additional context.
